Psychotherapy in downtown Oakville
Meet in person with Renato Discenza, Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), or choose secure online sessions when that better fits your life.
Beginning therapy
Sometimes you know exactly what you want to discuss. Sometimes you only know that something no longer feels right.
Therapy offers time to slow the situation down, notice what may be difficult to see alone and consider what would move you toward a more meaningful direction.
People may come to Discern Counselling with anxiety, overwhelm, work or leadership pressure, burnout, a life transition, a difficult decision, questions about identity or purpose, or concerns involving spirituality and religion. Your experience does not need to fit neatly into one category.
Ways to meet
In-person and online sessions are part of the same thoughtful, confidential therapeutic practice.

Virtual psychotherapy is available to clients who are physically located in Ontario at the time of service.
Working together
My approach is informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and existential perspectives. We may explore difficult thoughts and emotions, the values that matter to you and the actions that could bring your life into closer alignment with those values.
I also bring decades of experience in leadership, healthcare, engineering and public service. That experience can help me understand context, but it does not make me the author of your direction. Client agency remains central to the work.
Faith, spirituality and questions of meaning can be included when they matter to you. They are never imposed, and people of any faith or no faith are welcome.
Areas we can explore
Understanding the thoughts, emotions and patterns that may be narrowing your choices or consuming your attention.
Exploring pressure, isolation, responsibility, moral distress and what sustainable leadership might require.
Making room for uncertainty, grief, identity and values when circumstances or roles are changing.
Including purpose, faith, spiritual struggle or religious injury in therapy when those experiences are important to you.
A first conversation
The complimentary 20–30 minute consultation is an opportunity to describe what brings you to therapy, ask practical questions and consider whether working together feels appropriate. It is a conversation, not a commitment to continue.
ReadyToTalk.Today
You do not need a polished explanation. We can begin with a conversation and work from there.
